About The World Is My Classroom
My name is Meg Pierce and I set out to create a website about diverse books. I had big plans for lesson plans and vocabulary lists and tools for students and teachers. Hopefully, I will still get to this in the future. However, as I dove into my reading journey, I realized that I have stories inside me too that need to come out, not just the fictional stories I've created in my early attempts at novels, but those of the real places I've been and the people who have touched my life.
I spent almost a decade teaching, learning, and living outside my home in the United States. It started with student-teaching in Trinidad and Tobago in 2004. Next I volunteered in the Peace Corps in what was then the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia from 2004 to 2006. My next sojourn overseas took me to Togo from 2011-2014, followed by the Ivory Coast from 2014-2016. Finally, I left Africa for France, where I lived from 2016-2018. All along the way I kept journals, but when I look back at them now, they tell nothing. Only time has been able to sift through the minutiae of daily living and the experiences of import that haunt me and inform me to this day.
So folks, I am setting out on a new journey in 2024 to look back on my adventures and truly reflect on who they have made me and what I have come to value. Alongside my serious stories, I'm including some silly stories, lest I take myself to seriously, a book blog that is both in keeping with my original goal and reveals how others' stories have helped me find the stories inside me, and finally, because I know that once I start writing, ranting about my passion for the beautiful game of soccer is bound to come out - some sports stories too.
Thank you for joining me on this exploration.
